Overview

At GitPat, we believe that patent litigators and attorneys spend too much time struggling with PDF and Word versions of patents, claim charts, and file histories. Collecting, organizing, and citing patent material is a tedious, time-intensive, hands-on task — at best. GitPat aims to reduce all of that tedious work to just a few keystrokes, giving you and your team back vital time that you can better spend doing billable work.

Patent PDF and Full-Text Workflows at Warp Speed

GitPat automates the following time-consuming patent tasks, taking only a few moments each:

    • Grab PDF files of patents from USPTO. Fetch 100 patents in just 2 minutes (depends on internet speed).
    • Create Word copies of patents. These copies make it simple to copy text into briefs, presentations, and claim charts.
    • Generate claim chart templates. GitPat fills in the left-hand column of claim charts for you in seconds.
    • (Coming in August 2022) Quote content from patent PDFs with citation information included automatically. It’s as simple as using GitPat to highlighting text inside of a patent’s PDF. GitPat will do the work of properly formatting your highlighted text, create a citation to the text’s column(s) and row(s), and copy all of that to your clipboard. All you need to do is paste that properly-formatted text and a citation wherever you would want to use it, such as inside a Word document. Our advanced search tool lets you search for words and phrases, and if you want you can use Boolean search. This feature lets you find all relevant text, and quote and cite it easily.

Patent Formatting Problems — Solved

Using conventional sources for retrieving the full-text of patents can be cumbersome and annoying. Oftentimes, special characters have been replaced by placeholders such as “.theta.” for a “θ” symbol, and some of the special text-formatting you see in the PDF copy (such as italics and subscripts) gets translated into odd codes that require time to manually search for and replace or fix on your own.

With GitPat, gone are those days of struggling to add that Greek θ or the degrees mark “°C” to your work. GitPat has already done that work for you so that the full-text Word documents GitPat creates have the same math symbols, Greek letters, and other special characters that the PDF copy has.  GitPat’s output includes  subscripts, superscripts, and italics. Its claim charts for Reissue patents even indicate deletions with square brackets and additions with italics.
